Our Thoughts:
This book was our October pick for my local book club. Tonight was our meeting!
Happy Hour + Book Talk = A Great Evening!
For the most part, everyone enjoyed this book! There were several of us that would not have normally picked this book but overall thought it was a good pick. One of the great things about a book club is expanding our reading horizons!
This book is told from three different characters. Each POV has a section in the book.
Wyatt. His sister, Trumanell disappeared ten years ago (we were a little confused in the beginning because he kept speaking to her as though she was still living at home). He found a girl on the side of the road and brought her to his house. Since the town is convinced that he was the one who killed his sister, the police were always harassing him.
Odette. She was our favorite character and has the largest part in the book. She is a police officer who had a relationship with Wyatt in the past. As a teenager she was in an accident and lost one of her legs. When the call came into the police station that Wyatt was seen with a young girl she went to his house to do a welfare check. The girl wouldn’t speak and was missing an eye.
Angel. A thirteen year old on the run from her father who murdered her mother (and also responsible for her missing eye). She bonded with Odette since they both had a disability. Odette went missing. Angel goes into the foster system but comes back five years later looking for answers.
There were a lot of twists and turns - most of us were surprised at the ending. Some of us couldn’t really connect with the characters. This rating was decided as a group (which is exactly what I would have rated it).
