I am going to start my review with a positive...I do love the women empowerment feel from Olivia and the storyline of her overcoming domestic abuse. Plus the fact that she wants to set the right example for her daughter.
That is the only positive thing that I have to say in regards to this book. It was SO difficult for me to read. It is so poorly written, the vocabulary used was awful and at times didn't even make sense. Honestly, it seems like this book was written in a different language and it was translated into English. There is nothing wrong with that but it needs to make sense. I often had to go back to reread because it was just so confusing.
This book was primarily dialog - again very confusing, several times, I was unsure who was speaking. This seemed more like a script for a tv show rather than a book. And there was SO much repetitive conversation - this book is longer than it needed to be.
The editing was absolutely awful. There were numerous grammatical errors...spelling errors, misuse of punctuation and misuse of words. Again, I had to go back an reread to understand what was going on.
I am not a lawyer or really know the innerworkings of the job but to me this story was just so unbelievable. The court cases that I have seen, the process is completely different than what was portrayed in this book. Being a lawyer is supposed to be about holding up the law but there was so much illegal activity on Olivia's part, I am sure that she would have lost her license to practice law.
I would say my actual rating is 1.5 stars but I did round up. I really enjoyed the last book that I read by Freya Atwood so this was a huge disappointment for me. Once I start a book, I feel committed to finishing it (especially when it is an ARC) but there were several times that I almost gave up with this one.
