Book Review

What a fun cozy mystery! Public Anchovy #1 is book 3 of the Deep Dish Mysteries series by Mindy Quigley. This book can be read as a standalone and is a quick/fun read.

Delilah and her best friend Sonya own a specialty pizza shop in Geneva Bay, WI. It is a touristy spot so in the off months they have to cater to bring in some extra cash. Their current catering job is for a fundraiser for their local library at the historic mansion of a wealthy library board member's home.

Tragedy strikes the party even before dinner is served with the death of an ex-board member. Not to fear, Detective Calvin Capone is in attendance and gets right to work. While most of the attendees have left the party, there was still a group who didn't get out in time to avoid the winter storm damage. To make matters worse, the emergency vehicles could not get through which meant that they were all stuck there with a dead body. Delilah and her sleuthy crew help Capone determine that this was no accident - it was murder! And they were in fact stuck in this house with the murderer - overnight there was a 2nd murder plus an attempted murder.

I really enjoyed this book. It was really well written with an array of emotions flowing throughout the book. It was a nice change of pace from my usual books and the characters really were great. Mindy Quigley is a “new to me: author and I will definitely be going back to read the previous books in this series. I do think that at times things were silly or over the top but really most cozy mysteries are like that. Not really sure if the cat was needed in this story but who doesn’t love a cute furry sidekick? I loved the tension between Delilah and Calvin, the romance lover in me cannot wait to see what happens between them in the future.
