Kelsey is a strong, brave news reporter who wants to get important issues reported. She felt very strongly against getting involved with anyone who played football. Her father was injured when he was a pro-ball player and the football league didn’t have his back the way they should have. Growing up she had to see how it affected him (and their family)...she didn’t want that kind of life for herself.
Daniel is a hunky, older quarterback who is on the verge of retiring. He has been hurt so many times during his almost 20 years as a player but he is waiting for that right moment to go out on top. That is until he finds a reason to (aka Kelsey).
They meet when Daniel crashes into her whole she is on the sidelines trying to get some information from the cheerleaders on an expose that she is planning to write. To apologize, Daniel takes her out to dinner and it all snowballs from there.
I don't read a ton of sports romance but I really enjoyed this book! It's truly nice to see a book that brings awareness to the way that athletes are treated and what is expected of them. That being said, I am torn on how I feel about this couple! I love the plot, I love both of these MC's…just not together. Their romance was a bit too-insta, a tad superficial and sometimes unrealistic. I really wish I felt more of a connection to them as a couple!
I really expected more internal conflict within Kelsey because she does have such strong views on football/sports injuries but she went all-in quite quickly. I do love her sassiness and quick wit! I love Daniel's passion for his job. He is pretty consistent throughout the book. I just love him! He is classy, protective and wants to spoil the people he cares about. It is so enduring!
It is the first book that I have read by Brittany! This book is full of laughter, bantering, sweetness & spiciness! I love the side characters, especially Cameron! I am excited to see what is in store for her!
