Book Description:
Where do you see yourself in five years?
When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend's marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.
But when she wakes up, she's suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It's the same night--December 15--but 2025, five years in the future.
After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can't shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn't the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.
That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision.
Brimming with joy and heartbreak, In Five Years is an unforgettable love story that reminds us of the power of loyalty, friendship, and the unpredictable nature of destiny.
My Review:
I really, really wanted to love this book! I started out enjoying it but the main character, Dannie really started to get on my nerves. Dannie was so bossy, controlling and self absorbed. I did not like how she treated the people that she supposedly loved the most.
Dannie quickly went from loving her fiancé to putting him on the back burned just because of this dream that she had. What a way to ruin their whole engagement night! Although I feel like their whole relationship was just settling with one another, it should have been a special night for them. I am not even sure that either David or Dannie truly loved each other and it made it hard to read a whole "romance novel" where they were just tolerating each other.
I absolutely loved Bella! She was so refreshing in this novel. Everything about her! But I will admit at first I was sort of upset with her for being in love with Aaron but that changed as I continued to read. The jealousy that Dannie had and the way she avoided her best friend really made me sad. I truly felt bad for Bella and was proud of her for kicking Dannie out during her treatment!
I feel that this book was well written, the storyline was good, it was just the main character that ruined the book for me. I laughed, I cried and I cried some more. As someone who has had a close relative pass away quickly from cancer, I could certainly picture Bella's journey. Did I mention that I cried a lot? Even while being this sick she was so, so sick, she put her best friend's happiness first. She was truly a gem!
My emotions were all over the place reading this book!!! My advise would be to have a box of tissues with you when you read this book!
